Each day, schools provide meals, transport, security and education to millions of learners, it is therefore paramount to keep schools safe. This allows learners to look forward to being in an encouraging environment that promotes social and creative learning and also a safe place to be. When the basic safety needs are not met, learners are at a risk of not feeling comfortable at school and may stop showing up, or maybe remain on edge all throughout the day. Promoting school safety creates an open space for kids to explore, learn and grow.

A safe learning environment is essential for learners of all ages. Without it learners are unable to focus on learning the skills needed for a successful education and future. When unsafe, insecure and violent learning environment is part of an educational setting, learners are affected in all ways.
We at NEW COMFORT JUNIOR SCHOOL, the issue of school safety is of major concern at all times and our interested parties involved as our school motto says “Education and Care”. The school provides quality education in a safe, happy, caring and standard environment.

The classroom sizes are large enough to accommodate a capacity of 30 students with an in between ample distance between the learners and enough teacher moving space.
The classroom windows are wide enough to ensure sufficient natural lighting and adequate circulation of air, also they are without grills as it is directed by the school safety measures requirements.
The floor contains rustic nut ceramic floor tiles to ensure safety by reducing the risk of falling. The learners use whiteboard for learning instead of blackboards to reduce the risk of eye damages due to chalk dust.

The school has employed a security guard at the school gate who is in charge of movements in and out of the school. After ferrying the learners to school the drivers also give a hand in ensuring safety of the learners as they move around the school.
The school is secured with a perimeter wall and round the clock cctv surveillance cameras covering the whole institution. This prevents entry of any kind of harmful insects or intruders to the institution that may cause harm. The school has a programme of children safety talk where the learners are enlightened on the basic security measures to take in case a situation arises. All the school ground is covered by concrete tiles and is cleaned on a daily basis to make the environment clean and conducive for learning. The school being a stored building, has spacious stair cases and highly raised grills along the balcony to prevent the children from falling off.

The school is also cautious of occurrences of illness or maybe accidents among children while in school, for this matter the institution has come up with a school safety committee which also serves as the first aid team. This comprises of both learners who are mostly from the scouting club and staff. This team is charged with the role of stepping up in case of such occurrences. The school has identified a hospital within Syokimau area where cases that need medical attention are forwarded to.
The school also has adequate abolitions for both boys and girls separated with a concrete wall.Boys use cittern urinals with a continuous flow of water. The washrooms are very spacious preventing children from touching the walls. Preschool learners being the most vulnerable group to hygiene related conditions use different washrooms with help from their teachers to ensure both their safety and hygiene from the primary school learners washrooms. The school has a stable water supply system which supply adequate water together with a backup scheme to ensure an all-time availability of water within the institution. The washrooms are served with a regular and consistent supply of water.

To identify food safety risks and address behavior changes in our school, the food menus, the food handling at procurement and delivery standards are addressed during training by invited food safety experts.
Our kitchen is spacious to host 4 workers who are well dressed in head caps, kitchen uniform, gloves, white aprons and safety shoes. Food is received and stored in our storage room before moved to our food preparation area. Food preparation area is continually cleaned at a maximum interval of 1 hour. We have continually been visited by health inspection officers and our kitchen workers credentials have been found compliant.

The school vehicles are washed on a daily basis both in the morning after ferrying the learners to school and in the evening after dropping them home. The school compound and the classrooms are also cleaned on a daily basis. The toilets are cleaned three times a day by the janitors. The children’s playhouse, merry go round and tambourine are cleaned weekly.
The school environment is also full of natural flowers to ensure adequate supply of fresh air as well as beautifying the environment.

The safety of learners utilizing transport services is also a major concern in our institution. When the learners are picked in the morning, the bus attendant ensures that they are comfortably settled in the vehicles before they can take off, this reduces the risk of hitting themselves in the vehicles. When dropping them back home, the driver ensures the learners has been received by a responsible member of their families and signed in a transport compliance book before taking off.
These among other school safety aspects are our center of attention and paramount to make sure that our learners and school staff enjoy learning here as they are protected from food illness, classroom disorder, road accidents, assaults, sexual misconduct, theft, fights, weaponry, and needless to mention.
